U11s vs Blundeston, June

Hales U11s produced an excellent performance in beating Blundeston by 45 runs in the Terry Moore trophy.

Hales made an amazing start, with Chris Read in superb form cracking five boundaries in his excellent 22 from just 4 overs. Ryan Claxton carried on where Read left off, smashing 16. James Kershaw and Josh Pitcher (8) were the other main contributors as Hales scored 301 for just 4 wickets, by far their best batting display of the season.

In reply Blundeston made a sound start, but the Hales bowling and fielding was exceptional. Alex Jary took 2 wickets in as many balls in his 2 for 6 spell from 3 overs. He was well backed up by Jake Rolph (2 for 7) and Josh Pitcher (1 for 4), with Tom Boardman and Sam Ford bowling good overs. The ground fielding was excellent, and Blundeston finished on 261 for 5, giving Hales a well-deserved 45-run victory.

Coach Pete Dye was delighted at his team’s all round display; "It was a real team effort, but Chris Read's batting was something special, a star in the making!’ The Youngs DIY Man of the Match was, not surprisingly, Chris Read.

U13 vs Beccles, Lowestoft

Hales U13s continued their impressive run of late with a win against neighbours Beccles by 32 runs in the Allan Bridgewater competition. Hales made a good start, with Alfie Kaye leading the way with 9. Isaac Rolph made 10, but it is was Mark Minns who took the honours, with a textbook innings of 16 with drives straight out of the book. He received excellent support from Robbie Craigs (13) and Harry Baugh (10) as Hales posted 301 for 5, giving a net of 261.

In reply Harry Baugh struck second ball, but Rodwell (22) and Wright (20) kept Beccles right in the hunt. Alfie Kaye (2 for 9) was Hales’ most productive bowler, showing great promise with his spin. He was well backed up by Baugh (2 for 13) as Hales took 8 wickets, including a stunning run-out by Isaac Rolph to see Hales home by 32 runs.

Faber Roofing Man of the Match was Mark Minns.

U11s vs Lowestoft, June

Hales U11s lost to Lowestoft U11s by 33 runs in an excellent game played at the Green. Hales batted first and made a steady start through Chris Read and Robbie Killgallen. Jake Rolph was Hales’ best batsmen with 13, with excellent support from skipper Josh Pitcher (9), as Hales made a net score of 229 against a good Lowestoft bowling attack.

In reply Elliott got Lowestoft off to a flyer, but good spells from Jake Rolph, Robbie Killgallen and Ryan Claxton made them work hard. However, Lowestoft only lost 2 wickets compared with Hales' 7, which was the difference as they ran out winners by 33 runs.

Cadge & Gilbert Man of the Match was Ryan Claxton for his tidy spell with the ball.

U13s vs Brooke - June

Hales U13s beat Brooke U13s by 61 runs in the Allan Bridgewater competition. Hales made an amazing start when Harry Baugh took a wicket first ball, continuing to bowl superbly and finishing with 3 for 14. Mark Minns (3 for 7), Isaac Rolph (2 for 2), Jake Rolph (1 for 4) and Henry Shelton (1 for 17) bagged a total of 10 wickets, leaving Brooke on a net score of 188. M Wilson was Brooke's best bat, with 10.

In reply, Hales lost early wickets too, but 17 from Mark Minns, 11 from Robbie Craigs and Alfie Kaye and 9 from Jake Rolph saw Hales home by 61 runs, although their 7 wickets lost is something they can look to improve on. P Watrop was Brooke’s best, with 3 for 12.

DHL man of the match was Alfie Kaye, who restored some calmness to the batting.

Beccles & Bungay Roll of Honour nominations: Harry Baugh 3 for 13, Mark Minns 3 for 7.

U11s vs Beccles - June

Hales U11s lost to Beccles U11s by 34 runs at Beef Meadow. Hales made a lively start, with Chris Read cracking 3 consecutive fours in his 13. He received good support from Ryan Claxton, but most other batsmen struggled against a good Beccles attack, with C Burton the pick, with 4 for 10 from his 3 overs. Hales lost 7 wickets in total, finishing on a 222 net score.

In reply, J Crisp got Beccles off to a good start with 11, Milton supporting with 7. Sam Ford (1 for 4) and Chris Read (1 for 9) were Hales’ best bowlers, with Jessie Weston picking up a wicket in her final over. However, it was not enough to prevent Beccles from gaining a 34 run win, which was deserved as they were the better team on the night.

George Bircham & Sons Man of the Match was Chris Read for his good all-round game.

U15s vs Topcroft - June

Hales U15s beat Topcroft U15s by 10 wickets in the Andy Seeley Trophy. Topcroft elected to bat and were pegged back by opening bowlers Jamie Weston and Josh Knights. A Burrows was Topcroft's most successful batsman, playing some fine drives in his 22. Aaron Beaumont gained most reward, taking 2 for 5 from his 3 overs, as Topcroft finished on 71 for 5 from their 20.

In reply, Hales made batting look a different game. Chris Andersen hit 9 boundaries in a well-crafted 50 not out, while opening partner George Montagu gave good support with 11 not out, as Hales passed the Topcroft total in the 9th over with all wickets in tact.

Parravani Ice Cream Man of the Match was Chris Andersen for his class knock.

Beccles & Bungay Roll of Honour nomination: Chris Andersen 50 n.o.

U11 vs Acle - June

Hales U11s lost to Acle by 21 runs. Hales openers Robbie Killgallen and James Kershaw had added 23 before 3 wickets in their final over undid their earlier good work. Ryan Claxton and Sam Ford steadied, before James Rosewell came to the crease in his first-ever match. He cracked his first two deliveries for 4 as he raced on to a magnificent 19, which included 4 boundaries, in as good a debut as there has been. Alex Jary returned to form, but late wickets wiped valuable runs with 9 wickets lost, taking a total of 271 down to a net 226.

Hales bowled well as a team. Pick of the attack was Ryan Claxton, well supported by Joe Durrant and James Kershaw, who both impressed. Acle lost only 2 wickets, giving them a 21 run win, with Hales left to rue all the wickets they had lost, and which made some of their excellent efforts wasted.

The Guardline Environmental Man of the Match was James Rosewell for his stunning debut.

U15s vs Lowestoft - June

Hales U15s lost to Lowestoft by 26 runs at the Denes Oval. Lowestoft batted first and were pegged back by some excellent bowling by Josh Knights, who bowled with pace and direction in his 2 for 4 opening burst. He received excellent support from Jamie Weston, who was his miserly self, conceding just 8 runs. Lowestoft then stepped up the rate, with the impressive Brice leading the way as Lowestoft finished on 102 from their 20 overs.

In reply Chris Andersen had looked comfortable before a deflection off his pad saw him bowled for 15. A middle-order collapse saw 6 wickets go for 8 runs before Aaron Beaumont and Lewis White restored some batting pride with an unbroken last stand of 22, to see Hales finish on a respectable 76. Jack Cook was outstanding in the field, an example to all.

The Faber Roofing Man of the Match was Josh Knights for his lively spell.

U11s vs Mallards - June

Hales U11s lost to Vauxhall Mallards by 62 runs but put in a good display against a side containing five county players. Hales skipper Josh Pitcher won the toss and elected to bat as the light was gloomy. Openers Chris Read (7) and Robbie Killgallen (7) made a solid start, this being continued by Pitcher (8), who was backed up by Oscar Skelton. Alex Jary and Ryan Claxton battled well before final pair Jake Rolph and Sam Ford gave the innings a steady finish, Ford dealing with county bowler Connor most efficiently. Hales finished on 249 for 6.

In reply, Mallards scored sensibly but effectively, with Read (2 for 10) competing well against his county colleagues. Debutant Killgallen bowled with pace and looks an excellent prospect in the fast bowling department.

Faber Roofing Man of the Match went to Chris Read for all-round performance.

U15s vs Mallards

Hales U15s travelled to Vauxhall Mallards in the Andy Seeley competition without Captain Chris Andersen, who was on NPower National Cricket Competition duty. Hales made a lively start, with the impressive Jack Cook making a cameo 26, including a cut, pull and drive out of the very top drawer. George Montagu made a solid 12, and Josh Knights 13 not out. It was, however, Tom Collier who took the Mallards’ bowlers to task with 33, with six boundaries in his excellent knock, allowing Hales to post a respectable 105.

In reply, Sam Plater was in excellent form for Mallards as he and Aaron Hill put on 72 before Lewis White bowled him for 34. Hales dropped Hill, who went on to make 49 not out to see Mallards home. Hales can though be pleased with their efforts, with Collier and Cook's batting something to savour.

The C J Ball Motorcycles Man of the Match was awarded to Jack Cook.

U13s vs Hemsby

Hales U13s travelled to Hemsby and won by 92 runs. The Hales bowlers all bowled tight lines, with a wicket apiece for Isaac Rolph, Alfie Kaye and Joe Durrant, and a run-out restricting Hemsby to 229 for 4, for a net total of 197.

County Player Mark Minns led the way for Hales in bat, showing some fine shots in his 38. He received good support from Isaac Rolph (13) and Alfie Kaye (8),as Hales scored freely to reach 321 for 4, with a net total of 289.

The Cadge & Gilbert Man of the Match was Mark Minns.

U13s vs Lowestoft

Hales U13s lost to Lowestoft U13s by 37 runs. Hales were put in, and three early wickets set them on the back foot. Mark Minns (14) and Robbie Craigs (11) repaired the damage as Hales posted 272 for 6, with a net score of 234.

In reply Lowestoft scored freely before Henry Shelton came on, taking 2 wickets in a fine spell of2 for 3, but those early wickets meant Hales always had too much to do. Ryan Claxton kept well, and Jessica Weston was outstanding in the field.

The Paravanni Ice Cream Man of the Match went to Henry Shelton for his 2 wickets.

U11 vs Topcroft

Hales U11s got their season off to an excellent start with a comprehensive victory against neighbours Topcroft. Hales won the toss and made a sensational start, claiming three wickets in the very first over, courtesy of Chris Read, followed by a couple of smart run-outs. Wickets continued to fall, with Jake Rolph the destroyer-in-chief, clean bowling four victims in his impressive spell  of 4 for 2 from his 3 overs. Skipper Josh Pitcher marshalled his troops well, as Topcroft lost 11 wickets, leaving them on a net score of 193.

In reply, openers Sam Ford and Hector Carrie made an impressive start, adding 11 without loss, followed by another 13 from Ryan Claxton and Jake Rolph. Chris Read top-scored with 14, and Jessie Weston and Alex Jary both performed well, as Hales lost only three wickets to finish on a net score of 239 and gain victory by 46 runs.

The Faber Roofing Man of the Match was Jake Rolph for his sensational bowling.
