U10s Belton August 2007

Hales Under-10s lost to Belton by 28 runs but can be pleased with the excellent performance they gave. Tom Boardman was the best batman for Hales, cracking three fine boundaries. Holly Jones, Megan Knights and Rachael Harvey all hit boundaries, with Sam Ford’s textbook batting a pleasure to watch.

In reply, Harry McLean, Rachael Harvey and Holly Jones took a wicket apiece, with Kirsty Andersen and 5-year-old Josh Etteridge impressive in the field.

U10s Beccles July 2007

Hales U10s lost to Beccles U10s by 23 runs in an excellent game, with both sides showing real promise.

Beccles made 293, losing 5 wickets. Chris Read was the best of a good attack, taking 1 for 3 from his 2 overs. Tom Boardman and Ryan Claxton both took a wicket, with Skipper Joy Minns taking a stunning catch in a good all-round fielding display.

In reply, Chris Read top-scored with 18, playing quality shots both sides of the wicket, and Josh Pitcher (12) and Jessie Weston batted well. The eight wickets were the difference between two very good sides, some of the Beccles' fielding being exceptionally good.

U13s Saxlingham July 2007

Hales U13s rounded off their league season with an emphatic win against Saxlingham. Hales took 8 wickets, with Stephen White the pick of a useful attack. White took 3 for 7 from 3 overs, with his best performance of the season. He was well supported by Josh Knights (2 for 6 from 3 overs), with wickets for Alfie Kaye, Isaac Rolph and Tom Watts as Saxlingham closed on 253 for 8.

Watts gave Hales a solid start, making 12, and a stylish 15 from Jack Cook set the tone. Josh Knights carried this on, cracking 25 that included some fine drives and an effortless pull for 6. Kaye made 14 as he and Jamie Weston saw their team finish on 310 for 5, with Hales home by 81 runs.

Hales have played six games in their group, winning four in an excellent season during which the team has really developed as with time.

Beccles & Bungay Roll of Honour nomination: Stephen White (3 for 7)

U15 Topcroft July 2007

Hales U15s lost to Topcroft U15s by 6 wickets but, with eight U13s in the side, showed plenty of promise in the way they played. Chris Andersen was the mainstay of the Hales total; he finished unbeaten on 48 and rarely looked troubled against a good Topcroft attack. His team mates found it a lot tougher, but Josh Knights and George Montagu gave Andersen solid support as Hales finished on 75 for 6 from their 20 overs.

Topcroft made a lively start through Wright and Baldwin, before Wright became one of three victims for the impressive Lewis White, for 31. Baldwin carried on before White removed him, but Topcroft had plenty of overs and passed Hales’ total in 14 overs.

U13 Lowestoft 28th June 2007

Hales U13s beat Topcroft U13s by 46 runs in the Allan Bridgewater trophy. Hales made an early breakthrough, with the pacey Josh Knights taking a wicket second ball on the way to an excellent spell of 4 for 10 from 3 overs. Topcroft scored at a lively rate, but the wickets kept tumbling, leaving them on a net score of 189, with Hales claiming 11 wickets.

In reply Jack Cook and Tom Watts batted well, but problems running between the wickets accounted for no fewer than 5 run-outs in 4 overs! Isaac Rolph and Stephen White restored some stability, before Jamie Weston and Alfie Kaye pushed Hales in front. The final pair of George Montagu and Josh Knights both made 24 to put Hales well clear, with both playing some fine shots against a good bowling and fielding side.

Beccles & Bungay Roll of Honour nomination - Josh Knights 4 for 10 from 4 overs

U11s, Brooke 5th June 2007

Hales under-11s beat Brooke under-11s by 50 runs in the Terry Moore trophy. Hales were invited to bat and lost two wickets in the first over, but Chris Read and Ryan Claxton recoverd well. Sam Ford and George Milton then added an excellent 23 runs, with Milton cracking a superb 4 and Ford batting solidly in support. Megan Knights, Josh Pitcher, Alex Jary and Jessie Weston all batted technically soundly to see Hales close on 245.

In reply, Read made a sensational start, taking a wicket with his first ball and two more in his first over. Milton added another two in the next over to give Hales a cusion they kept througought the match. The Brooke batsmen played some excellent shots, but there were wickets for Jary and Pitcher and another for Read, who finished the game with outstanding figures of 4 overs, 3 maidens, 4 wickets for just 1 run. This saw Hales win this entertaining game, with Milton making a very good job as captain. With all the team actually being under-10s, this group has real potential.

Beccles and Bungay Roll of Honour nomination - Chris Read   4-3-1-4

U15 vs Beccles, 25th May 2007

Hales U15s beat Beccles U15s by 4 runs in a game that was as close as the scoreline suggests. Hales won the toss and chose to bat, and after a steady start Chris Andersen unleashed, cracking 3 consecutive boundaries to get Hales' and his own game going. He played shots to all parts of the ground, receiving excellent support from Robert Mattocks. These two put on 86 before Mattocks fell for 18. Andersen continued to score freely, finishing unbeaten on 82, 15 of these coming from the last over, as he showed the quality his game includes, his 82 also containing 17 boundaries. In reply, Beccles were always in the match, but good bowling from Dan Ayre and Andersen saw Hales just just edge home in an entertaining encounter.
