Hales Colts 2008
Colts Shipdham - 12th July

Hales Colts travelled to Shipdham on a damp but drying day and soon found themselves in trouble at 13 for 3, before a mini-revival took the score to 30 for 4. Then George Montagu and Jack Cook saw the score past 50, when Cook was out for a well-crafted 18.

Aaron Beaumont then came to the crease and rode his luck early on as batsmen departed around him. He felt he had to take the attack to the hosts until a solid 11 from Max Mclean added 30 for the 9th wicket. Number 11 Alex Taylor came and went, leaving Beaumont stranded on 41 as Hales closed on 118.

The Hales openers bowled with pace but were unable to make the breakthrough, althouth chances came and went - four in total, the easiest being uncharacteristically spilt by Paul Bassingthwaighte

Stand-in skipper for the day Jamie Weston then turned to spin and gentle medium-pacer Taylor to take the pace off the ball, which worked, but only for a short time, with Isaac Rolph and Bassingthwaighte taking catches in successive balls to leave Taylor on a hat trick. The hosts, however, brought up their target with only 2 wickets to spare.

Colts Blundeston - June

Hales entertained league leaders Blundeston on Saturday in Norfolk League division 10 and had the first laugh with visiting caption Talbot, third in the league averages last year, back in the shed third ball thanks to a good catch by bowler Alex Taylor for a duck. But from then on in it seemed to go pear-shaped as Mobbs and Gooch let loose at the Hales attack. Of the Hales seamers, only Isaac Rolf found any consistency, with 1 for 23 from 8 overs. Wicket-keeper turned spinner, and Hales Man of the Match, Jack Cook bowled 8 fabulous overs, producing figures of 3 for 20. This saw the visitors finish up on 210 all out, probably 50 runs short of what they had hoped for earlier in the innings.

The Hales reply started well, with Bassingthwaighte firing 2 boundaries in the first 3 balls off the bowling of pace-man Gooch, but he was bowled next ball for just 8. With him gone, Hales struggled to find anyone capable of standing up to the pace of Gooch. Cook held his ground for a while with a patient and well-worked 12, but the Hales lower order was dismissed all too quickly as they were all out for 41. But well done to Taylor and Rolf for pushing the Hales total past 40 for the batting point.

Beccles & Bungay Roll of Honour nomination - Jack Cook, 3 for 20
