B&B Roll of Honour
Hardingham 18th August

Hales Colts continued to learn as they lost by 180 runs against third-placed Hardingham A. Hardingham won the toss and scored freely, but Hales’ depleted bowling attack performed well, with leg-spinner George Montagu the pick with a fine display that also earned a wicket. Jonno Wright, Mark Minns and Garth Weston also took wickets, with Pete Dye bagging a brace of catches after dropping a howler off Weston.

Hardingham sportingly declared on 226 for 4 from 38 overs. In reply, Hales were in desperate trouble at 5 for 5, but Dye took on opening bowler Meikle with two textbook cover drives in his cameo 17. Stephen White’s 11 then took Hales Colts to a modest but respectable 46 against a strong Hardingham outfit.

Garboldisham 4th August 2007

Hales Colts travelled to Garboldisham B and put in a spirited display as they continue their education in the game. Hales won the toss and batted first. Chris Ayre (11) and Joe Kaye (11) gave Hales a steady start after Mattocks’ early dismissal. Then Hales produced an excellent stand, with Johnie Premachandra (17) and the in-form Josh Knights, who was unbeaten on 28, his cameo knock including four boundaries.

Hales occupied the crease for 43 overs, a superb effort from the young team, finishing on 102. In reply Garboldisham made a solid start before Premachandra made the breakthrough on 54, bowling Swords for 15. Lewis White continued his excellent form of late, picking up 3 wickets for 21 runs, but he couldn’t prevent Garboldisham passing their target in 25 overs.

Norwich Union B 21st July 2007

Hales Colts lost to Norwich Union B by 142 runs, but it was a good day for former Yorkshire all-rounder Garth Weston, who top-scored with 35 as well as taking a hat trick in his 4 for 57 spell from 12 overs. His son Jamie also enjoyed a fine game, scoring his best ever score of 27 and going for only 20 from his 8 overs. Isaac Rolph (2 for 29) and Alfie Kaye (1 for 25) were the other wicket-takers as Norwich Union made 244 for 9. Kaye followed that with 20, which included four boundaries in his best knock to date. The Colts were all out for 102, Kaye summing it up by saying, 'We've gotta learn" - and we are.

Beccles & Bungay Roll of Honour nominations:  G. Weston 4 for 57, including a hat trick

Hethersett 30th June 2007

Hales Colts produced an excellent bowling and fielding display against Hethersett, led by 13-year-old Jamie Weston who took 4 for 30 from 7, taking his tally to 15 wickets for the Colts this season. He was well supported by Aaron Beaumont (3 for 26), Nathan Beattie (1 for 18) and Gary Weston, who had the ball fizzing through, suprising considering his mature years.

Eleven-year-old Jake Rolph and Lewis White both were tidy as Hales bowled out Hethersett for 143. Nathan Beattie was outstanding in the field. Aaron Beaumont continued to enjoy an excellent game: he opened and top-scored with 18, showing that his excellent attitude and practice is paying real dividends. Veteran Pete Dye scored a brief 11, and debutant Paul Thurston 10. There were no other double-figure contributions, and Hales were out for 64.

Skipper Dye was delighted with his young players: except for me and Gary Weston, the bowling and fielding was top drawer and our young players realy competed today. They are well on their way to being quality cricketers.

Beccles & Bungay Roll of Honour nomination -  Jamie Weston 4 for 30 from 7 overs.

Garboldisham 2nd June 2007

Hales Colts entertained Garboldisham B at Langley in Norfolk League 10. Hales won the toss and elected to bat. Runs were at a premium, with Plummer looking in good touch before he failed to make his ground after going for a second. Josh Knights again batted with great maturity, making 11 before misjudging a full toss. At 43 for 6 the innings looked doomed, but an excellent stand between Hales Past and Hales Future – Pete Dye and Mark Minns – added 43 on a difficult surface, with Minns giving excellent support to Dye before being out for an excellent 9,which lasted 18 overs. Dye continued to grind out an innings, finishing unbeaten on 42 as Hales recovered to 105 for 9 from their 45 overs.

In reply Josh Knights made an early breakthrough before the wiley spin of Plummer bagged two more, but Garboldisham had plenty of strength in bat, with just one more wicket falling – to Alex Taylor who recovered well to finish his spell strongly. Jack Cook took a catch behind the stumps, with Alfie Kaye's leg spin almost gaining reward as Garboldisham passed Hales’ total in the 26th over.

Shipdham 26th May 2007

Hales Colts lost to Shipdham by 9 wickets in a pleasant game played in a good spirit. Hales won the toss, and Josh Knights cracked a quickfire 14,,with one huge 6 cracking the tiles on the pavilion roof. Seasoned campaigner Pete Dye made 11, and Jamie Weston 9, as Hales posted a modest 68. In reply, good opening spells by Isaac Rolph and Jamie Weston made Shipdham work, with Weston taking the only wicket, caught behind by Jack Cook who had another tidy game behind the stumps. There was still time for late drama with Paul Bassingthwaighte being sent to hospital after attempting a catch; thankfully he is ok, but he will be sidelined for the Garboldisham clash at Langley, as he recieved 7 stitches in a hand wound.

Blundeston 12th May 2007

Hales Colts travelled to Blundeston and enjoyed a much better match this week. Acting Skipper Jamie Weston lost the toss, which saw Hales take the field first yet again. Weston and Dan Andersen bowled well, with Andersen removing Talbot and Weston unlucky not to take wickets in yet another tidy spell. All bowlers did a good job, with Andersen 4 for 40, Weston 2 for 24 from 8, and Isaac Rolph and Alex Taylor both taking a pair. Blundeston were bowled out in 34 overs, with Josh Pitcher and Lewis White impressive in the field for Hales.

In reply, Hales struggled to make runs, with only 15 from Dan Andersen and 13 from Pete Dye of note as their innings closed on 44. Coach Pete Dye had plenty to be pleased with, as bowling a side out shows what good bowlers the team has, despite its young years. The batting will get stronger in the coming weeks with the return of several missing players, plenty of progress being made in the development of the club's young players.

North Elmham 5th May 2007

Hales Colts had mixed fortunes against North Elmham A on Saturday May 5th. Once again the team had 10 under-13s in it. Skipper Dye lost the toss and his young side were made to toil all afternoon, with the hosts rattling up 416 for 7 from their 45 overs. Jamie Weston, Mark Minns and Isaac Rolph all took a brace apiece, with Max Mclean taking  the other wicket as Elmham continued to amass a mammoth total. The Hales youngsters stuck to their task superby, never letting their heads down, with Weston and Rolph fighting back well with excellent second spells.

In reply Mark Minns was sensational in bat, the 11-year-old scoring a stylish 36 runs against an adult bowling attack, with one boundary right out of the top draw in what was the best technical innings of the match. He received excellent support from Isaac Rolph 26, Justin Rolph 16 not out and Jack Cook 10 as Hales made an impressive 118. Nine-year-old Jake Rolph was superb in the field and batted for 8 overs at the end. However, Hales' superior technique was unable to match North Elmham's power and strength, although the quality of play was a real credit, with Mark Minns' knock a textbook innings to savour.  Remember that name - a star in the making.
