Hales Cricket Club is based about 15 miles south of Norwich (see where we are) and is a cricket club with both junior and senior members, with many teams - from U10 upwards - playing friendlies and competitive league matches, including in the Norfolk Cricket Alliance, Norfolk Cricket League and Mid-Norfolk Sunday League. Thanks to the foresight of previous members, we now have a very strong youth as well as senior set-up.
The youth season - with over 100 boys and girls involved, from the ages of 4 to 17 - starts each year at the end of April. Training is on Monday evenings for the aged 4 to 12, and on Thursdays for the U13s-U17s. Winter nets are also run for the juniors.
Youth league matches involve teams from U10 to U17 through the summer. Over the years, 12 junior members have been invited to join county squads - 4 in 2008 - and in 2006 the U17 Hales Herd team won the Junior Carter Cup
We currently have one level 3 ECB coach, three level 2 coaches, two level 1 coaches and four Introductory Award coaches. Coaches hold first aid and child protection training, and have been CRB checked.
Senior winter nets run in the spring, and senior matches also start at the end of April, with a midweek training session. A high proportion of senior players have come through the youth ranks.
Senior teams have earned many accolades, including NCL Division 1 champions 2007, Coronation Cup winners 2007, NCL Division 2 champions 2006 and NCB U19 Bowler of the Year 2006. Indeed, the 1st Team lost only two matches during the whole of the 2006 and 2007 seasons!
The club has now earned Clubmark and Focus Club status from the ECB, and is involved in the Chance 2 Shine programme, bringing cricket into schools. We're also building a new pitch and clubhouse, adjacent to the current ground on a new 7.5 acre site (see the new ground and C2S pages for the latest developments).
